Kevin G. Rooney is a patent attorney and the founder of Rooney IP, LLC. He is involved in all facets of the firm’s practice. He focuses his expertise on patent and trademark procurement, enforcement, counseling, IP agreements, and strategic planning. Kevin’s patent practice is centered in the mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies, and he is also active in trademark procurement and enforcement, as well as copyright matters.

Kevin was a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) while he obtained his law degree, with honors, at The National Law Center at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. At the USPTO, Kevin examined patent applications covering medical devices, agricultural equipment, games, toys and educational devices. The technologies he has protected for clients as a patent attorney include agricultural equipment, automated machinery, printing presses, vehicle systems, medical devices (e.g., cardiologic, neurologic, ophthalmic, dental, endodontic, orthodontic, orthopedic, and laparoscopic), injection and blow molding, telecommunications equipment, high security locks and electronic access control systems. He was chosen from a select group of Patent Examiners for an extensive detail in the USPTO Office of Legislative and International Affairs. During this detail, Kevin advised the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office on intellectual property aspects of international trade agreements and treaties. With this experience, Kevin is also heavily involved with international patent and trademark matters and the firm has many outstanding IP associates around the world as a result.

For almost two decades prior to establishing Rooney IP, LLC, Kevin was a partner in a Cincinnati IP boutique law firm where he oversaw one of the largest practices at the firm and held several management roles over the years. During over 30 years of practicing Intellectual Property Law, Kevin has counseled clients on matters spanning a wide spectrum of intellectual property rights. In addition to procuring intellectual property rights, Kevin has extensive involvement in defending the rights of clients against allegations of infringement and enforcing IP rights of individuals and companies/organizations of all sizes. Many clients have commented that they appreciate his direct, intelligent, and honest approach to their IP issues.
